NASHVILLE, TN — Today, Wellpath announced that former Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy (D-RI) has joined Wellpath’s board of directors to help inform their innovative behavioral health services and evidence based addiction treatment programs. Kennedy brings to Wellpath a lifetime of experience leading the charge on mental health reform, working tirelessly in and out of public office to end discrimination against those suffering from addiction or a mental illness, and fighting to achieve health equity in the United States.

“Wellpath’s expertise, quality of care and dedication to comprehensive beh
avioral health care sets them apart in their continued effort to improve health care outcomes for their patients, said Patrick Kennedy. “I look forward to working with Wellpath as they continue to expand their behavioral health and addiction treatment programs to more than 300,000 patients across the country.”

During his career in public service, Kennedy was the lead sponsor of the bi-partisan Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, which provided millions of previously uninsured Americans access to mental health and addiction treatment. His work in Congress brought greater awareness and treatment options to those struggling with a variety of health issues, including PTSD, Alzheimer’s and substance abuse.

Once he left public office, Kennedy founded The Kennedy Forum, a non-profit that leads a national dialogue on transforming mental health and addiction care delivery by uniting mental health advocates, business leaders, and government agencies in their push to require insurance companies to cover treatment for mental health and substance use disorders. He also co-founded One Mind, a mental health non-profit focused on helping people with brain illness and injury to recover and lead a healthy, happy life.

“Patrick Kennedy’s leadership in mental health reform has been revolutionary for the millions of Americans who struggle with a mental illness,” said Wellpath CEO Jorge Dominicis. “His proven success fighting for health equity and his lifelong commitment elevating the conversation on mental health and addiction care will help elevate Wellpath’s mission to provide our patients with innovative, compassionate care.”
